Fire up the grill!

Elite Welding Academy (Houston) and the American Welding Society (Houston Section 22) hosted 30 Scouts from 26 Troops earn their Welding Merit Badges. The event was organized by Earl Simon (AWS CWI/Merit Badge Counselor), Mike Frazier (Elite Welding Academy Lead Instructor/AWS CWI) and Darlene Scheffler (Sam Houston Area Council/Registration). Steel Plates and Barbeque Grills provided by Electro-Mechanical Industries, Inc. of Houston. All registration fees were applied to the Sam Houston Area Council Campership Fund. This fund assists Scouts with severe financial hardships attend camp. A great day of fun and learning was had by all. The Scouts were instructed in the following welding processes, SMAW, GMAW, and FCAW (Innershield) as well as careers in welding and welding safety.

EMI donates barbeque grill kits used by American Welding Society, Houston Section 22 to train Scouts in various welding processes and earn their Welding Merit Badges. These plasma-cut kits feature the Boy Scouts’ Fleur-de-lis on the front that represents the three parts of the Scout Oath. EMI team member Earl Simon and Tyler Wunderlich volunteer as instructors. The event was hosted on February 17th by our friends at Elite Welding Academy. All registration fees are applied to the Sam Houston Area Council Campership Fund to assist Scouts with financial hardships attend camp.
