Powering up the Caesars Superdome

Electro-Mechanical Industries, Inc. (EMI) is pleased to announce the successful delivery of a generator platform to a premiere telecom client at Caesars Superdome in New Orleans, Louisiana. This project presented distinct challenges, necessitating meticulous installation procedures to avoid existing subterranean infrastructure and preserve the surrounding environment.

The elevated platform, measuring 31’ X16’ and standing at 10’, was designed and engineered by EMI’s in-house team. Built to accommodate a 760-kilowatt diesel generator and a 480V automatic transfer switch, weighing more than 20,000 pounds, this platform showcases EMI’s commitment to innovative solutions in the realm of infrastructure development.

Foundation holes were pre-drilled in case of undocumented infrastructure.

The project demanded novel approaches, including the development of new helical pier designs, to ensure optimal torque resistance at an embedment depth of 46’. This unique solution underscores EMI’s dedication to precision engineering and tailored solutions for complex infrastructure projects.

The installation crew uses an EMI Drive Tool to embed the piers and foundation extensions.

Being the single source provider for design, engineering, manufacturing, and installation culminated in a quick turnaround when unforeseen design revisions arose due to undocumented utility lines. EMI’s Project Managers were able to quickly coordinate a solution with minimal down time. In total, it took just over six weeks to complete the project.

Special attention was paid to avoid damage to surrounding trees.

The installed generator will play a pivotal role in providing emergency power to the telecommunications infrastructure serving the Caesars Superdome complex. As the home of the New Orleans Saints and Tulane Green Wave football teams, as well as the host of events such as the annual Bayou Classic (featuring Grambling University vs Southern University) and various concerts, the Caesars Superdome relies on robust and reliable power systems, exemplified by EMI’s latest installation.
